Frequently Asked Questions

How long is your typical session?

Our typical session lasts between forty-five minutes and an hour, however every person is unique and therefore session times vary from client to client.

Are you honestly implying that you can photograph my newborn in less than an hour, when I haven't slept in a week?

Don't get us wrong, we know that an infants' mood greatly influences the timeline of a photoshoot; don't worry if a session is prolonged due to feeding schedules or crankiness.

Do you limit the number of images you take?

Not a chance. We often take over a hundred photos per shoot and do not limit the overall quantity. That being said, we spend a great deal of time editing down those images to present you with the best of the best.

Do you shoot black and white or color?

We shoot digital and can do pretty much anything post-production. Advances in technology provide us with the ability to create darkroom quality black and white prints, or stunning color photos from the same image. Having said that, black and white works better in certain circumstances than color or monochrome. We always provide assistance with determining what will work best.

How can I view your latest work?

Part of our success is due to the fact that people can always see what we've been up to by checking out our blog or scheduling an appointment with us. We love having visitors who are interested in what we do. Call or Email anytime!

I don't exactly live close by - do you travel?

Nothing to be concerned about - we're flattered that you want to go with our services and glad that our name did some traveling to find you. Travel rates vary depending on the distance so give us a call!

Do you hold onto copies of our images?

All of our images are backed up in two separate locations and formats which insures that we'll have the images if you need copies at a later date.

I can’t even remember the last time I had my picture taken – how does all this work?

Many of our clients are re-discovering beautiful portraiture for the first time in awhile. Please visit the link that reads “What To Expect” for everything you should know about what we do and how we do it.

What type of clothing should I wear? How many outfits should I bring?

This one is a bit more involved but probably the most commonly overlooked aspect of portraiture. Below are numerous suggestions to help us create the best images possible.

Pay attention to lengths: Your cousin may love his muscle shirt, but it’s not going to look all that great photographed next to your button-down. Try and match long sleeves with long sleeves and short sleeves with short sleeves. The same goes for pants/shorts/skirts etc.

Compliment each other: Those jeans look great on you. But seriously – if one person is wearing an extremely busy outfit (patterns and/or stripes) try to compliment it by having the other person wearing solid colors. Patterns also play a huge roll in how the camera treats you; horizontal stripes tend to widen the body while vertical stripes provide a slimming look.

Color range: More than the colors themselves, it’s important to pay attention to hue and saturation. Family portrait in the yard during spring? Light blue and white is a classic combination. Doing an outdoor shoot in the fall? Pick muted fall colors (brown, khaki, cream) that will work nicely with the fallen leaves. Anything reminiscent of hunting safety (neon yellow/orange) should be avoided. We want everyone to look at your face, not your shirt.

Origami is a no-no: If your shirt has wrinkles resembling an origami masterpiece it’s going to ruin what has the potential to be a beautiful image. Iron your clothes and dry-clean your suits!

This information is a good place to start but does not include everything we recommend; no need to worry, we cover all of it during your pre-portrait consultation. All in all you need to remember is that the more time and thought you put into your clothing selection the better the images will turn out!
